As is usual in Nigeria when those of the older generation pass away it ends with a party, some sort of celebration of life, that in itself is an important rite of passage but more important must be how grief is dealt with thereafter.
I am working hard for this blog to also become about the celebration of life, making progress from understanding and dealing with issues of grief. Ultimately we must show death that it has not won and that there is a future beyond this world, a future in heaven. Hard as it might seem death is a reality but as a Christian I need God’s help to face it and its consequences.
I was to preach at a local church today but decided I was not in the right frame of mind to do so. Instead I went to a church called City of david and I have just finished attending a house fellowship in my brother-in-law’s home and we studied the following scripture from Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verses 1-8 and it mirrors the way I feel:
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace."
Over the weekend It was good to meet many who are following this blog, their responses is such a huge encouragement.
